The 6 Week Challenge

The Program:

The 6-week challenge is adapted from the same programs and workshops used to inspire and motivate world-class sports people. The programs are a combination of interactive workshops and exercise classes aimed at teaching staff such qualities as goal setting & self-monitoring techniques. The techniques are combined with diet, exercise and posture showing an emphasis on the importance of good health to a productive work environment.

The 6-week challenge provides people with the stimulus required to affect positive lifestyle changes toward better health, which will result directly in improved efficiency in the workplace.

Each individual receives a Comprehensive 6 Week Challenge Evaluation Report Folder outlining their results and offering the guidance needed to implement positive lifestyle changes toward better health.

WEEK 1

Evaluations: Individual Medical & Physical Assessments

Time: 20 minutes
Location: OBSERVATORY MEDICAL CENTRE Suite 5, 168 Kent Street Sydney, NSW, 2001
Coordinator: Executive Health Group Doctors

Under the supervision of an Executive Health Group Doctor, participants firstly must undergo an extensive medical and physical evaluation, to accurately determine the state of each individual's health. These are conducted in the comfort of the Executive Health Group Observatory Medical Centre located conveniently at the base of Observatory Tower at 168 Kent Street.

Workshop: An introduction to Program Development & Self Monitoring Methods
Group Size: 40

The group will undertake a comprehensive goal-setting workshop, especially adapted to suit Executives, with methods used being extremely successfully on world-class athletes and sports people at the Australian Institute of Sport. Topics covered will include program training, performance diaries and self-monitoring methods.

WEEK 2

Workshop: Diet & Nutrition as a Way of Life
Group Size: 40
Time: 60 minutes
Location: In House
Coordinator: Executive Health Group Dietitian

The group undertakes a workshop on diet and nutrition and the role they can play in establishing a healthier lifestyle. During this interactive workshop individuals will formulate diets and implement self-monitoring methods so they can achieve their set goals.

Four Sub-Groups of 10 are formed based on the medical and physical pre-assessments to ensure equal ability where possible across the groups. Each Sub-Group of 10 will undertake two classes: one Exercise and one Physiotherapy/Posture class each week for Weeks 2, 3,4 & 5.

WEEK 3

Workshop: The importance of good Posture in the Workplace
Group Size: 40
Time: 60 minutes
Location: In House
Coordinator: Executive Health Group Sports Scientist

An Executive Health Groups Physiotherapist, outlines in a 60-minute practical workshop the importance of good posture in the workplace, the consequences in later life of not looking after your posture and self monitoring methods involving back and neck exercises to prevent complications.

Class 1: Group Exercise Training

Class 2: Group Physiotherapy Posture & Fitness

Each Group of 10 will undertake one Exercise Training class and one Physiotherapy/Posture class.

WEEK 4

Workshop: Fitness Myths
Group Size: 40
Time: 60 minutes
Location: In House

What really works? Does weight training make me put on weight? Does eating low fat foods prevent increasing body fat? Do you burn more fat off while walking than running? Do multivitamin tablets increase my fitness levels and accelerate recovery? Fads, Diets, supplementation, etc.

Each Group of 10 will undertake one Exercise Training class and one Physiotherapy/Posture class.

WEEK 5

Workshop: Benefits of ongoing Exercise
Group Size: 40

What are the likely health risks associated with employees? Can exercise prevent many of the prevalent diseases in today's society? For, example heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc.

Class 1: Group Exercise Training

Class 2: Group Physiotherapy Posture & Fitness

Each Group of 10 will undertake one Exercise Training class and one Physiotherapy/Posture class.

WEEK 6

Workshop: Summary of Goals & Achievements
Group Size: 40
Time: 60 minutes
Location: In House

Coordinators from each of the Executive Health Group's divisions will very briefly summarize the goals that should have been achieved over the duration of the program; outline future goals as well as outlining effective self-monitoring techniques participants can take forward with them. This will be followed by an informal session where individuals can talk personally to our experts regarding any questions and issues
